Why Sailorj
Sit back and listen up to this little story about a time of 300 baud modems and AOL CDs. When the internet was Fidonet and we logged in once a day to check email and play moves on our online role playing games. Yes I’ve been around for some time. But I started young too.
Seriously though, my internet days started with a modem and logging on to bulletin boards and chat.
There was a time when AOL was the place to chat and I didn’t really have a good handle there. But yes we all had handles.
When I moved from AOL into the real Web I found IRC which was Internet Relay Chat. There were servers that you would find and log into where you could create or join rooms where there were different subjects. This was the mid 90s. And I needed a handle. I was in the Navy at the time, so Sailor seemed generic enough. But I figured why not add my initial. And so SailorJ was born. It sort of stuck. So I would here people say, oh hey, it’s sailor “Jay” and I liked it. So I used it with email and more. And of course this website which I’ve had for over 20 years. Just never really did much with it… until now.
So welcome to my crazy world filled with the passion of a Submarine Sailor.
And what they say about Submariners, it’s all true.
